April 26, 2009ya so about 6 months ago my exhaust started making a loud tick when id rev it up. so i took it to the shop, and found out it was the header gasket on the passenger side. paid some money and got it back. worked great, then a month to the day it happened again. i took it back and they said it was the same thing in the same spot. so they put 2 gaskets on to try it and sent me on my way. well about 5 months later its doing it again. im guessing my header is warped and im not sure what to do. i have bbk headers so its a good brand. anyone got suggestions?? thanks
April 26, 2009A better gasket would be my next suggestion. *or*, you could have bolts backing out.
What is the exact brand and model of the gasket you are using?
May 6, 2009sorry for the delay. i believe they are bbk long tubes. i checked the bolts but they are tight. im guessing im gonna have to get better gaskets. any suggestions? guess the cork ones arent cutting it. thanks again socal
May 6, 2009I use FelPro''s metal once and never had a leak.
May 6, 2009i googled felpro metal, couldnt find any exhaust gaskets. any chance of a link to it? thx
May 7, 2009Hm, just search for FelPro headers gasket. I got mine in one of their kits.
May 8, 2009i see them now, lots of different types hope i get the right ones hehe
May 9, 2009In my experience, a ''stock'' header gasket is thin (tan colored?) fiber, with metal on one side. The metal is perforated with a pattern.
You may have even better luck with a very thick fiber gasket of good quality. I''ll try to find the ones I used (they were FelPro also), and post back.
With many aftermarket headers, the headers warp after initial installation. This isn''t a problem until you take them OFF. Putting them on a second time is VERY DIFFICULT, because the holes won''t line up and you''ll have to use a pry bar on each primary to get the bolts started. It might be really hard, *or* it might be not too bad - there''s no way to tell until you try.
May 9, 2009I''m pretty sure I used the FelPro 1415''s (blue color, in a sort of shrink wrapped package that was white and blue).
Here''s a link from Summit:

I''ve had mine on my ''94 since 1997 with no leaks. These were the ones that solve my leak problem when I put new heads and headers on (took three tries to find a gasket that sealed!)
May 19, 2009ya i ordered some felpros from the jegs website... the number i got is 1487. said they were the ones to use for warped headers... i guess we''ll see what happens as ill be doing the job tomorrow. ill have to take a pic and post it. i already know what my gasket looks like, if it looks the same as it did last time thanks again
May 20, 2009just got done putting the new gasket on! the tick is gone! from the right side.... now its ticking on the left side!!! so im guessing i either messed up the driver side gasket when moving the passenger side headers around. *or* i got a lifter problem.... im thinking its gasket. anyone run into this before? thanks....
