April 17, 2004Today i performed my first oil change and it went alot easier than expected. Put it on ramps and got er done in about 20 minutes. The only trouble i had was getting my stupid filter wrench around the filter. I got the kind that looks kinda like a monkey wrench and could barely get it around it. I had an old sheet under the car in case the wind made some of the oil fly all over. But i did end up with one small oil stain in my driveway when the filter slipped out of my hand and fell down. I searched on another site on how many quarts to put in since i dont have a manual and most said the manual stated 6. So i put in 6 and i think its just a tad overfilled. I wasnt sure how smoothly this was going to go so i bought the Motorcraft syn-blend oil instead of the Mobil 1 full synthetic which i wanted to try since you can get 5k out of it. Next time im putting in synthetic for sure though.
If anybodys interested in changing their own oil and have never done it, this is the link i used and it helped alot since i didnt even know where the oil pan was.
Now ill try to tackle the fuel filter since i have built a slight confidence in my basic mechanical skills.
