June 22, 2005This one kinda goes with the PCM topic I was also wondering if you put Cobra front calipers on sn95 GT would you have to upgrade the ABS control module or would it not need to be upgraded as well?
June 22, 2005You wouldn't have to change the ABS module, but you might need to change the master cylinder out for the Cobra one - they have different diameter bores.
But, unfortunately, most rebuilder houses (and I think Ford now) put all three M/C's under the same p/n, since they're interchangeable. I believe that the original bore diameters were 1", 1-1/16", and 1-1/8".
In theory you only need to change, at minimum, the caliper mounting brackets, the hoses that run from the hardline to the caliper on each side, the calipers, and the rotors. Add in a little more $$$ for more brake fluid, and some new copper washers for the banjo bolts. You could probably do the whole thing in a couple hours, and then drive it awhile to see if you want to make changes (to change to the Cobra M/C).
If you *do* want to do the Cobra M/C, I would go to Jim Dingell at PPI, since you won't be able to predict the M/C bore diameter (without direct measurement) any other way. If he sells you a 'Cobra' one, you will have the Cobra one. He sells mainly to the Cobra owner crowd.
June 24, 2005The only thing you need is the Cobra Calipers w/ hoses and new cobra rotors (Requires 17 inch wheels, min.). Every thing else stays the same. You Do NOT have to change the master cylinder. There the same between Cobra and GT (and maybe V6, not sure). I changed my over to cobra and have no problems.
June 24, 2005Snakebrakes thats good jim but they should sure help stop a person when they needed it. I need to put some on the 70 it still has drums all the way around
June 24, 2005Look - I know for sure that the Cobra and GT master cylinders are NOT the same. They have the same ports on the outside to hook hoses up to, and they have the same look, but they are NOT the same part. They have different main bores, and that WILL make a difference in pedal feel.
I am not making this up.
June 24, 2005The GT and the V6 got the same brakes, atleast for my year, Cobra is different.
I'm sure Eric is just making this up. j/k
June 24, 2005Does Eric get his info from someone else if he absolutely has no idea?
June 25, 2005You have to change the master cylinder out...........
Look atthis kit and see for yourself:
M-2300-Q Fits 1994-95 Mustang GT ¹

This kit will upgrade the front brakes to 1994-98 Cobra 13" rotors and calipers
Use with stock rear disk brakes
Includes hoses and attaching parts
Requires 17" wheels such as M-1007-C58, M-1007-C178, M-1007-R58 or equivalent
NOTE: ¹ Includes master cylinder.
April 22, 2012Ran into a pretty big problem with the rear Cobra brakes. The calipers rub the rotor, on the outside. I don`t know how to fix this. I don`t even know if I am going to be able to get the pads and everything to fit around the rotors. Turns out the Cobra rotors are about a 1/8th of an inch thicker than the regular v6/GT rotors.
