Ok, went by the dealer and they were stumped. There only suggestion was the vent holes were clogged and they would contact their field person to see if they have seen this, but of course, Ford will not be responsible due to the mileage on the car.
So, little 'ole me goes home and tears my trunk apart. The vent holes were clear, no problems there, but here are some pics.
This is the driver's side...it's the worst of the two.
You can't see the damage on the passenger side through the pics. You can see them in person and feel them.
Again, all 3 sections of the assembly, both driver's side and passenger side have damage. The service advisor at the dealership noticed that the passenger side had the "bubbling" toward the top of the lens away from the bulb. The idea of someone trying to melt it came up, but there are no marks on the outside and the lenses are smooth. The inside of the assembly is fine and the silver background is fine.
Voltage levels are normal and there is no corrosion around the bulbs or sockets. No problems with my brake switch or anything like that. Everything pretty much looks brand new. For right now, I am just going to keep an eye on them and start saving for some Cobra taillights.
It's just frustrating because I know they are there...you may not be able to see them if you didn't know, but I know and that is really bugging me.
Thanks for all the help and suggestions.
