Thanks for all the replies. Still don't have a real good reason except that my taillights may be defective in some way. Voltage amounts are at normal ranges, and I would think that if it was pulling more than normal, it would affect other electrical stuff in the car and not just the taillights. Some others saw it for the first time at our local hang out over the weekend. Not one has seen this problem. Trust me, everyone told me that after reading my thread, they ran out to check theirs...lol.
Anyway, I could try and drill more vent holes in the assembly to see if that alleviates some of the heat. The vent holes were not clogged, as the dealer suggested, and they are in the back of the assembly, so I am not sure how this would affect the melting of the lenses. The lights are warm after use, I checked this on Friday after sitting in traffic for an hour, but they weren't extremely hot, hot enough to melt plastic anyway.
The dealer is still giving me the run around, plays dumb when I call that they can't explain why the field service guy is not returning their emails, blah, blah, blah. I just keep documenting everything just in case something does happen.
If anything new pops up, I'll let everyone know, and again, thanks for the all the suggestions and comments.
