January 1, 2007heard about a problem with head lights and fog lights flickering on fox body gts b/c the wires were tough enuff for the heat, or something... anyways my headlights dont really flicker, they dont come on when i turn on the lights, then i have to move my turn signal thing around till they do. this happened before and all i did was replace the turn signal thing with a new (used) one from a junk yard, and now its doing it again... just wondering if the wiring is messed up, or if i just need to buy a new turn signal thing all together.... anyways lemme know thank you

January 1, 2007from what it sounds like there is a loose wire or short somewhere. I am not familar with the fox model. But based on what you said here when you have to move the turn signal around untill the headlights turn on, thats either a loose wire or the wiring is bad altogether to the headlights. I would suggest looking at the wiring to the headlights and under the dash to see if you can see anything first. Then a good thing to buy is a Hanes service manual, they are cheap and you can get them at any parts store. it has all the diagrams for wiring and everything you would need to know. Auto techs use it to fix cars, and it is an easy to save money and keep your car out of the shop! Good Luck!
January 2, 2007On Fox Mustangs, the problem is that the headlight wiring is a little undersized, and the switch is barely heavy duty enough for the stock bulbs. So, eventually, even with all stock components, parts of the switch will sort of melt, and then the paddle switch for the headlights will sort of jam, and you might not be able to turn the lights on (or off).
If you upgrade your headlight or foglight bulbs with any bulb that is supposed to be brighter than stock, you make it all happen faster.
The fix is to replace the switch, or to rewire the switch so that instead of having all the current for the headlight (and foglight) circuit go through the switch, just use the switch to run the primary side of a 12V relay under the hood. Then use the relay to switch the power going directly to the headlights. I will try to find a link for you about this mod.
But, in your case, the fact that this has something to do with your turn signal stalk (I think it's called the 'multifunction switch' means that something else is going on. Either you have a wire that is worn through the insulation, so it's shorting in the steering column, or you simply have a bad MF switch. Seems odd that you'd have two go bad though - how long did the new one last?
January 2, 2007Article from the Corral:
Shows the relay fix I mentioned. They say the lights will 'flicker', but in my experience, the lights turn OFF for like 30 seconds or more, then on, then off again. That's not a flicker...
January 2, 2007the new one lasted me around a year and a half, but its doing the same thing as before, it starts to not work a little bit, then it gets worse, then its really hard to turn on, then, no night drivin for me! i once saw on ebay a guy selling a kit of wires that are supposed to be heavy duty enuff to do the trick, but ill check out the link you set up. thank you very much and ill let you know later whats going on
January 20, 2008thank you socal for posting that link. i knew i saw it somewhere and i finally found it, ima try to do it today. ill let ya know how it goes! thanks again!
