April 9, 2007Can the needles on the insterment cluster gauges be poped off and put on to re adjust? i just had my fuel tank sending unit and gas gauge replaced but the reading is still off by about 1/4 tank i know because i know how much miles i get to a tank when i set my trip meter so im wondering if the needle could be off and just needs to be poped off and moved for re adjustment?
April 9, 2007Hmmmmm...I wonder if it wouldn't be better to adjust the float in the sending unit if that's possible.
April 9, 2007Can the float even be adjusted? the reason i asked about the needle is beacuse thats what they told me when i called the shop but it just didnt sound right to me
April 9, 2007ya, take the guage cluster out and use a kitchen fork and gentely lift it strait up ans off, i did this to put on my white face guages. be carefull not to scratch the guage faces, put a peice of plastic or something under the fork if u can. fill up the tank and then put the needle back on when the tank is full with the car running, i adjusted all my guages back this way and they are now more accurate then they were from the factory.
April 9, 2007Awesome thank you! Yes that is what i have, the white faced gauges it is so annoying having that gauge off 1/4 a tank im going to try that tomorrow and see if it helps out any .
April 9, 2007You can absolutely take them off and readjust. The problem is getting them put back on there pointed the right way.
Since you have white faced gauges, it sounds like the person who installed those simply got the needle on facing 1/4 tank wrong.
April 10, 2007i'll give ya a warning..when i pulled mine off on my 02 for a swap... they were completely screwed up when they went back on.Even ford couldnt fix em...
April 10, 2007Very, very simple to do. Fill the tank full, then make sure that the car is running when you put it back on. I'm with So-Cal, I bet that whoever put the white face gauges in, got it wrong. I have a tutoral to installing white face gauges in my gallery, it will help you to do all that you need. Here is the link.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. You can adjust that needle in about 20 minutes time, counting taking apart and putting back together.
April 10, 2007ya fill up the tank first and have the car running when u put it back on.... when i put my white face guages on i readjusted all the needles useing the digital odometer display. if you hold the reset button while you start the car your odometer becomes a digital readout from the computer, you can toggle through speed, rpms, batt. everything, thats how i got mine all perfectly adjusted.
April 10, 2007Grey,
98-below don't have that luxury. That is a neat feature though.
April 10, 2007oh ya my bad i forgot that before 98 it wasnt a digital odometer, well sorry, but if you do have a digital odometer then it works like a charm!
bright blue- how did you get your guages back where they should be with out the digital readout????
April 10, 2007Well thank you all for your tips i pretty much just remembered where there gas gauge needle was and i did what you said i filled up my gas tank then pit the needle back about where it would be on a full tank while the car was running so now im just gonna have to watch my miles on my trip meter and watch the gas gauge to see if im off at all and then ill just have to tweak it if i have to at all.
