July 16, 2007???
July 16, 2007interesting! Anyone know of anything good to paint a motocross helmet with? Im wanting to sand mine down and get the chips out and repaint it.. maybe a flat black and pink lol ..thought about spray can stuff but i dont want it to rub off..
July 18, 2007^^^
Holly just send it to Tim and let him do a professional job on it
July 18, 2007There was a time when painting a helmet or adding decals (although everyone did it) was considered a No No and even ran the risk of voiding it's warranty. It was speculated that the chemicals in the paint or decal adhesive dteriorated the composition of the helmet and weakened it. I've never seen this actually happen though.
Lightly scuffing your helmet and painting it a flat color probably won't hurt it and you can even top it off with a flat clear coat if you like that non glare flat look.
July 18, 2007Tim you say they call it jet black but think Ford call's it dark charcoal will they match
July 18, 2007Just a thought.. Jeff used Duplicolor top coat on our GT with the airbrushing on it.. After 8 months the top coat has started bubbling.
July 18, 2007Bubbling is not necessarily a flaw with the paint. Was it in spray cans or applied by gun?
Was the airbrushed design covered with CLEAR and if so, how was that prepped before clear coating?
In your case, the clear may have bubbled because what it was being sprayed on was not prepped to accept a coating. Whoever aircrushed it should have clearcoated it for you.
Also, some lacquer paints will "lift" acrylic base coats. In other words, an incompatible clear and base coat are doomed to failure.
As far as black and charcoal matching, I don't know. My car is BLACK. I've not seen a "Charcoal" Mustang yet...Except for interior.
