Shorty vs. Long Tube
Shorty: Pro - easy fitment, good low end and mid range power gains, good sound
Con - minimum top end power gain.
L/T: Pro- excellent mid range and top end gain, bad ass sound
Con - Fitment issues (they are a PITA to put the drivers side in) loss of low end power.
As far as what combinations for NA power...... Asking that question will yield you a LOT of answers, and everyone believes they are right.
Go with a good quality Head, port match it to a good intake, while you have all this off go on and put a cam that matches your head/intake setup, increase your timing, throw on a set of headers (I prefer equal length shorties), a good exhaust, pull the air silencer and put a high flow filter in, throw in a set of gears and a short throw shifter along with a good clutch, then when you're finished with that, put on a set of drag radials and you're good to go. There are a few odd and end things that you can do but these are the general.
