April 8, 2004Hello all..my first email. Love the site and all your input.
I bought a 1990 c1500 chevy 2x4.
From the factory it had a 4.3 six with a 3-speed auto and open-end 2.73 gears. The motor was swapped to a crate 5.7 v-8 and I added volant air-induction and a throttle body spacer. It has truck heads, roller cams and headers that lead into a single high-flow cat and 40 series flowmaster 3" exhaust. The truck has a 3" body lift and it rides on 33" tires. As you probably guessed, I'm a little slow off the line around town and I want to fix that. Right now at 65mph I kick out around 2100 rpms. What ring and pinion do ya think I should go with to improve city driving? I just had my tranny rebuild so I have no plans on going to a 4-speed auto. Can you also indicate what my rpm's will be running 3.42 or 3.73 gears? and any pros or cons..Thanks a ton!
