August 7, 2008Hey guys, some of you guys might not remember me and I dont usually come here much. However that will change as I am curious about my car. First, I''d like to know if you can just take any ordinary 351w block and turn it into a 418 stroker *or* does it have to be one of thoses well put together Dart blocks? Secondly, how much can an AOD handle in terms of hp and torque? Third, if I decided to add a KB to the motor in the future, how much boost can I run on a block I would either build vs a crate one? Thanks in advance!
August 7, 2008If you build the engine and not skimp on the parts quality, the engine will handle a lot of boost.
BUT!! A bad tune is a bad tune, on low *or* high boost and can ruin a engine even with low boost ,)
August 7, 2008Let me know if this list has any "weak" parts
4340 Forged Steel Crankshaft
H-Beam Steel connecting rods
SRP Forged 10 to 1 Pistons (actually looking for Forged pistons that''ll give me a 9:1, so I can add the KB, any suggestions?)
Chrome Moly Rings
Heavy Duty Double Roller Dynagear Timing Set
Xtreme Energy Hydraulic Roller Camshaft
Clevite Street Racing Bearings
Aluminum fast burn Edelbrock Victor Jr cylinder heads
Chrome Moly pushrods
1.6 to 1 Ratio Comp Cams Magnum Roller Rockers
High volume Melling Oil pump
Fel-pro Gasket set
50 oz Harmonic Balancer
Edelbrock Performer RPM Dual Plane Intake
Billet 750 cfm Throttle Body
905 CSR Water pump
Electronic Pertronix Ignition Distributor 45,000 volt coil with Vacuum advance
August 8, 2008Hope the Fel-Pro gaskets are MLS *or* that might be the "weak" link. You do know the trick of spraying panting them with copper spray?
August 10, 2008Taking a 351 to 408 is really common. I haven''t heard of doing a 418 before. Is somebody making kits?
Personally, since the 351 is so similar to the 302, I''d worry about a Ford 351 block if you''re making crazy power. 302''s are only good to about 500 hp before you risk splitting the block. The 2 bolt mains aren''t exactly appropriate in that situation either.
August 10, 2008I plan on making 6-700 with it. I just dont know what would be better. Buying a crate motor thats a 351w and stroked to 418 *or* building one. I mean granted buying one is much less hassle, but also comes with a hefty price. Heres where the motor is....
August 10, 2008Wow, that''s a lot of money for any Windsor engine. Is this your DD? *or* will it be a weekend race car? Have you done the chassis mods to harness that much HP? The stock tranny (any model, auto *or* manual), driveshaft, rear end, axles, rear suspension, etc. are all just timebombs with that kind of setup.
I also noticed that the link says 515 hp. But, that''s still a problem.
A Fox is such a light car, that even 400 hp would feel like a rocket. Unfortunately, it''s a very flexible car, and even 300 hp (and about 300 ft-lbs of torque) is enough to flex stuff to breakage, sooner than later the higher HP you go.
What exactly is it you''re looking for?
August 10, 2008I really hate the way this site puts asterisks around the word *or*. Over time I type *or*, it comes out with stars next to it. If I edit the post, I get even more stars. *or* *or* *or* *or* *or* *or*. Jeez.
August 11, 2008It''ll be my daily driver until I get a 2nd vehicle (then it''ll become my race/drag car. I haven''t done anything yet to it, because I want to get all the info, from people that know more than I currently do. I know with the horsepower that I want to achieve will wreck the transmission to pieces. What transmission can handle that type of power anyway? Viper T-56? If possible wouldn''t mind having a 6 speed mustang. I currently have a 4.10 in the rear as well. I plan on putting a K-member in it, getting a carbon fiber cowl induction hood and hatch, 94-98 5 lug black chrome rims, Eibach lowering kit, 6 point roll cage and dash mounted gauges. All cosmetic (sp?) stuff if ya know what I mean.
August 16, 2008You the only one at this website? lol Where is everyone?
November 14, 2011I need help diagnosing a problem with my son`s `03 3.8L V6 Mustang. I`m afraid it could be serious.
It`s making an occasional noise that sounds exactly like a slipping belt, a high pitched squeal or screech, but it also does it when the serpentine belt is removed, so it`s not the belt or any of the pulleys or automobile part. It doesn`t do it all the time, but when it does, the engine bogs down and will die if idling. Sounds like it`s coming from the front of the engine. Timing chain maybe? But doesn`t sound like a rattle. Harmonic balancer? Crank angle sensor? Bearings?
Any ideas? I`m stumped.
