August 15, 2010Where and what should I expect to pay for a full exhaust system for the car? I want Long tubes offroad X-pipe SLP Loudmouths out the back. All bolt on no welding needed.

August 16, 2010I paid about $400 for a hi-flow-cat H-pipe, in `96 or `97. You could get a catless H-pipe for about half that at that time, but of course those are federally illegal. I bought mine from a company in Mesa Arizona, and they called it `Mor-Flow` at that time, but the product was from Magnaflow.
I paid about $250 or $300 for a cat-back system. It`s a 2.5" Edelbrock Performer setup, with big mufflers and full tail pipes like stock, but bigger. It`s still pretty loud. There were cheaper ones out there but I was looking for something with at least some corrosion protection. They didn`t have stainless options back then (they`d cost more) so I just have aluminized steel, or something like that.
I bought my JBA headers used. I think I paid about $300 and they have Jet-Hot coating inside and out. You used to be able to pay about half that for just plain steel, but plan for them to rust out quickly. I have 16 years and about 70k miles on mine and they are like new. For fitting them in there I would recommend UNEQUAL length headers, with 1-5/8 or 1-3/4" primaries. EQUAL length headers for 5.0L are easy to find, but a real pain to install.
So, for a system that will last I think you`re looking at about $1000 in parts, for an absolute minimum. If you install them yourself then you`ll just need some header gaskets (under $50 for a good set). I don`t know how much you`d pay for installation - I did all mine myself.
