September 2, 2010hey guys, im going to build a 93 fox lx notchback. is the only difference between them the engine? obviously fuel lines wireing harness etc. but are the suspensions the same? how about the trans and rear diff? it makes more sense to me to build up a 4cyl body because i can rest assured it wont be twisted from torque. im putting my engine and trans from my 94 gt into the fox so wireing will have to be changed anyway and i want to run braided fuel lines/ fuel cell. so what do you guys say 4cy or 8cyl body?
September 2, 2010The engine crossmember between 4 cylinder and 8 cylinder Fox Mustangs is the SAME. So, you don`t need anything more than new motor mounts to put the engine in there. You`ll need a firewall to engine harness, and a 8 cylinder computer. Not sure about other details.
The 4 cylinder cars for most Fox years came with a very light duty 7" rear end, but the 8" rear end is a cheap direct swap - bolts right in.
The 4 cylinder transmission is lighter duty, but you`re using the one from your `94 V8 - no problems there. You will need a shorter than stock driveshaft though - the SN-95 tranny is longer, so you`ll need a shorter driveshaft than a stock Fox V8 car. No big deal - I bet you can find one available.
The 4 cylinder brakes were lighter duty all around. If you are building a drag car, maybe that`s no problem. Otherwise, bolt on the V8 ones later. The Master Cylinder is the only hard part. You can get a Cobra style M2300 type kit for `94-`04 Cobra style front brakes.
If you`re willing to swap all this stuff, I`d say go for it.
September 3, 2010thanks socal94, in that case ill probably find a 93 notch 5.0. there cheap enough these days since the economy is so shitty.. people start projects and have to abort them because they cant afford to finish them. so ill wait till the right one comes along. seems like everyone is selling there stangs, my buddy just sold is 92 gt with 70k original on it and got a 97 caravan because his wife made him.. we cried together
September 5, 2010Any particular reason you want a `93 vs. any other `87-`93 Fox 5.0? They are mostly the same...
The best seats and the hottest cam came in the `87-`88`s. In `90 the interior changed a little, and seats got a lot less nice. In `93 they stopped using forged pistons and switched to hypereutectic ones (more brittle).
September 6, 2010no reason, figured newer would have less age/rust/rot etc. is the weight difference the same from 87-93?
